How Does Trenchless Pipe Lining Work?

Imagine being able to fix damaged or deteriorating underground pipes without disruptive excavation, heavy machinery, or endless headaches. That’s where trenchless pipe lining comes in. Now, you can have your pipes repaired without ruining your yard, landscaping, or removing trees.

Advanced Trenchless Solutions explains how trenchless pipe lining work and how it can benefit you as a homeowner.

What Is Trenchless Pipe Lining?

Trenchless pipe lining, also called cured-in-place pipe (CIPP), is a method that repairs cracks, gaps, and other faults in your pipes. A liner made of epoxy resin is forced into the existing pipe and cures in place, which then creates a protected barrier between the original pipe and the water that runs through it.

This method is trenchless because the only digging required is a small access point for the camera inspection and CIPP equipment. Sometimes ATS doesn’t have to dig at all!

Trenchless Pipe Lining vs. Traditional Pipe Repair

Previously, the only way to repair broken pipes was to dig a huge hole in your yard to access the pipes, remove the old ones, and replace them with new ones.

Traditional pipe repair does not always mean the plumber knows exactly where the issue is located. That’s why so much digging is required – they must locate the problems manually instead of using a camera scope.

This often leaves a mess behind that the homeowner then has to take care of. Additionally, depending on the location of the break, it can disrupt traffic, pedestrian walkways, and more.

Trenchless pipe lining removes those issues that come with traditional pipe repair. Trenchless pipe lining is much less disruptive, less expensive, and less time-consuming than traditional pipe repair.

When Is Trenchless Pipe Lining NOT an Option?

There are times when trenchless pipe lining is not an option. These times typically include problems with Orangeburg pipes, which were used up through the 1970s. These can only be lined when in good condition.

Pipe lining also does not work when the pipes are already extremely deteriorated or fragile.
